1st Letter from the Leadership Committee to Oregon Amaranth Members:

Honored Ladies and Sir Knights this year I will be writing you at regular intervals with information that I hope you find useful in making your membership more meaningful and better informed.  I also hope that my information will make it so that you can complete your business in the Lodge room in short order and get to the FUN.  Remember that the main reason we all joined Amaranth was to join together for raising funds towards the research going on to rid the world of Diabetes, and have a great time doing this with friends both new and old.  I know that you all want to be the best member you can be and one way to do that is learn all you can about Amaranth so that the work can be completed in a timely fashion and you can get to the fun of fellowship and fundraising.

Remember that when you joined Amaranth you assumed a definite responsibility for its welfare – Amaranth’s program, policy, financial adequacy, and effectiveness in promoting the purposes and principles as set forth in our beautiful Ritual.  A good member not only takes an interest in what is going on but also works with – not against – the other members and officers.  Also remember to refrain from criticizing those who have accepted the responsibility of leadership.  Always remember to ask yourself before you criticize ‘Could I do it as well?’  The Order always needs people willing to step forward so please do.  Also remember picking someone apart from the sidelines is easy but stepping into their shoes is not.   Also remember that these leaders represent your Court and therefore you, so step forward and offer your help instead of sitting back and complaining.
It is also helpful as a member not just as one of the leaders to attend the Schools of Instruction put on by the Grand Lecturer and also any practice sessions held by your Assistant Grand Lecturer.   The Ritual also has many of the answers you may be looking for read all of the small print in your Ritual and you may be very surprised at how much it can teach you.  Also please feel free to contact me with questions and if I don’t know the answer or where to find I’ll find out.

Being a good member is a real job and demands the best we have to give it.

Some of these ideas were found in the Manual of Procedure of the Order of the Amaranth, Inc.  this is a great reference book.
